Had a great day today with some really good friends from years gone by. Dave and Anita Mahy picked us up in Burleigh to drive us all to Bob and Eileen Goudie's summer home near Bancroft. The day was perfect, and we did a lot of catching up.
And here is where Dawg Daze spent the day awaiting our return.
Having a visit with Ruthie, Bob and Eileen's daughter who was there with her husband for awhile. So nice to see her!
Having a lovely lunch together outside on the patio, with a gorgeous breeze off Paudash Lake.
This is The Archer cottage, though you can't see it too well. They are Goudie's nearest neighbour on one side.
The girls enjoyed some time by the water, and then IN the water. Anita put me through my paces. I TOLD her my idea of swimming is floating around on a noodle....
I seem to be seeing a lot of these lately. I believe they are called tiger lilies, though I always thought tigers had stripes, not spots. :-)

Boat Trip 2014 - Aug. 10
What a beautiful Sunday this has been. There is a beautiful church between Young's Point and Burleigh Falls, and that is where we went - by boat - this morning. This church is on an island in Stoney Lake, and the last time we went there, we had to anchor off shore, and someone gave us a ride. This time, we were able to tie up to a new dock that they have built around back.
St Peter's on the Rock Anglican Church of Stoney Lake. It is just used during July and August, and was built in 1914. Celebrating 100 years this year.
One of the beautiful windows at the front of the church.
What a treat to have an octet - 4 men and 4 women - from Elora ON, called the Elora Festival Singers, sing several numbers for us today. Really good!
There were 6 babies baptized this morning in the lake. There were a LOT of kids in the church, who went out for Sunday School. which made room for adults. the place was packed!
We are stopped in a lovely spot at the top of the lock at Burleigh Falls, and there are several loons in the area. Nice. A group of kayakers came through, and one of them demonstrated several different ways to roll. It was quite entertaining! Burleigh Falls can be pretty treacherous at times, but today, the rapids were pretty quiet, and several people were playing in them. We had a little excitement here today as well. Apparently, at the next lock, which is an island lock called Lovesick, a lady fainted, so they brought her here to meet the paramedics. They took her in the ambulance, but of course we don't know how that all turned out. It was pretty hot, so maybe sunstroke. Meet "Pork chop"! I don't know his real name, but he is a cute little 9 week old pot belly pig. What do you think they will do with him when he's 100 pounds? Eat him, I guess.

Summer Boat Trip 2014 - Aug. 9
Had a very relaxing day today, with a short, but welcome visit from Marj and Herm, who were passing by on their way to Apsley to see Herm's brother. We are still at Young's Point, at the end of the wall, which is nice, because then everyone isn't walking by looking in your boat. :-)
What we do a lot of the time!
What we ALSO do a lot of the time! We did share it. :-)
Misty morning visitor - doing some fishing.
Came back again for another visit later.
.
Osprey must have amazing vision - he is obviously looking for fish below - a LONG way below!
Went for a walk on a nice path through the woods. Too bad the mosquitoes are so plentiful!
Paul calls them "a rat with fur", but I do like chippies! They're so cute!

Summer Boat Trip 2014 - August 8
No post yesterday - power is a problem. My computer battery is useless - I ordered a new one, but it never came before we left. We have one of those converters that runs off the boat battery, but it is less than reliable. Tonight we are running the generator, so I'll put on some pics from yesterday and today. Yesterday, we came up the system from Peterborough to Lakefield. Stopped for awhile at lock 24, rode our bikes to Lakefield and back, then decided to bring the boat up to lock 26. Today, we just came to lock 27, Young's Point, and stopped. We're staying here tomorrow as well.
Anyone any idea what kind of bird this is? I assume it's a young one, but don't know what kind.
I noticed this squirrel in a tree, and he appeared to be sleeping, so stopped to take a picture.....
.....and did he ever chew me out!
A nice little foot bridge over a creek flowing into Little Lake.
The Peterborough Liftlock, largest liftlock in the world, and over a century old. Very impressive!
This group of canoists were taking a break - just south of Trent University. Some buildings at Trent University - sure hope they're not teaching architecture!
Trent U. really is a pretty campus - celebrating 50 years this year. Believe it or not - this tree is alive and well! Saw this beautiful dragonfly on our bike ride to Lakefield. This little fellow was grabbing a bite while Mom was grabbing a bite. Had my first Kawartha Dairy Moose Tracks ice cream yesterday in Lakefield! Yummy! There is a bike trail all the way from Peterborough to Lakefield along an old unused railway bed. You can see the river to the right, and River Road in between. A great place to ride! I was up and going for a walk in time for a beautiful sunrise this morning. Osprey at sunrise.
And a heron fishing for his breakfast.
I was just walking along minding my own business, when this little red squirrel started chattering madly at me! What is it with these squirrels???
We were lucky to see a loon today on our travels.
....and a baby loon.
Kingfishers are so hard to capture in pictures!
I think this is a green heron, and don't remember ever seeing one around here.

We're off again on the boat, this time up the Trent Severn. We had a bit of a late start this morning, and only came as far as Peterborough, lock 20. It is very quiet and peaceful here, and has cooled off nicely for sleeping.
I love this little treehouse, which we see on the river just south of Peterborough.
There were 2 ospreys sitting in this tree looking for fish.
I thought this fellow was going to climb onto the swim platform. A few of them came into Lock 19 with us - hoping for hand-outs I think.
Beautiful flowers everywhere.
We walked from lock 20 to downtown Peterborough - over the river beside the railway tracks, and along the riverside park. So pretty! This statue reminded us that winter will come again! Paul saw this little chippy go into his hole with his cheeks stuffed full, so I waited to see if he would come back out. He didn't disappoint!
We saw a lot of kayakers today. So colourful!
I was the "anchor" for this tug-of-war - granite! It just wouldn't move!
