Today we drove to Fort Lauderdale Beach (about 20 minutes) to do some biking. As you can see by the palm trees, it was VERY windy! It made for hard biking, but I just love this waterfront!
Paul is finding the walking and standing rather painful, but the biking doesn't seem to bother him so much.
We biked into the Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, between the beach and the intracoastal, and found a fairly sheltered, shady place for lunch where we could watch the boats going up and down the intracoastal.
This boat, the Lady Barbara, spends time every summer in the Cobourg Harbour - near where we dock on the July 1st weekend and after. The story we heard in Cobourg is that the boat was built for Barbara Bush and she decided she didn't want it, so this old man purchased it, and keeps it in St. Catherines. He has a captain and a cook on board (I think they are husband and wife). His wife used to be with him, but she died last year. I think he spends a lot of the winter in Myrtle Beach at Barefoot Landing - we've seen it there.
We watched several water taxis go by while were there. We plan to spend a day on the taxis some day next week.
We checked out the Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, one of the timeshares that we own - the first one that we bought, many years ago. Our unit is on the 15th floor, overlooking the ocean. The other side looks out at the intracoastal.
There were 1000's of young people on the beach today - Spring Break, I guess. Jeff do you remember one time when you were with us in Florida and you said, very disgustedly, "There's nothing but old people in Florida!"?
It's been a good day, and supper was ready in the crock-pot when we got home. :-)
wow - what an awesome day! I'd like to spend a day like with Steve :)
